The happiest hours in Brum...

Updated: Sep 6, 2020

Ever noticed that cheap drinks taste a million times better?

So you’ve probably noticed by now that I love a good cocktail or six and I love getting a good bargain even more. There are some great places to go out for your cocktail fix in Birmingham but especially in the city centre, you can find yourself needing to take out a mortgage to get the round in. If you’re wondering where to go for date night or your catch up with the girls without breaking the bank, I got you babe… Here are my budget friendly faves.

Las Iguanas

Bright colours, Latin music, fun atmosphere and some deals and a half, its safe to say I love Las Iguanas. They have three venues in Birmingham, Temple street, Arcadian and resorts world and will soon have a fourth at Brindley Place. Great for a few cheap rounds to get your night going or a Sunday Funday afternoon. If you are out for a cheeky cocktail it’s not happy hour its happy day all day every day, Its always 2 for 1 and they have a huge menu with something for everybody. If you’re not planning on moving on or just planning on having a few the chicas cocktail club is an amazing deal, £24.95 gets you four cocktails and two tapas dishes to soak them up with.

Strawberry Caipirinha

Dirty Martini

I’m always raving about dirty martini. The venue is gorgeous, massive choice of cocktails and its always really good service but the thing to rave about most is their daily happy hour. Monday to Thursday 3pm to 8pm, Friday and Sunday 12pm to 8pm and Saturday 12pm to 7pm you can get some of the best drinks prices in Birmingham. Half price martini’s, £3.50 bottled beers and ciders, £20 bottles of prosecco and £12.50 bottles of wine, an afternoon sesh without making your debit card cry. They do an amazing bottomless brunch which I’ve done a full review of here and don’t forget to get a selfie with the huge neon wings for the gram.

Half price cocktails

Be at one

Stylish décor and a massive cocktail menu, be at one at Brindley place is a great place for a few cheeky beverages. It’s a lively late night venue but if your around for a few in the afternoon you can catch happy hour, loads of the cocktails are 2 for 1 so you can really save yourself a few quid. Happy hour is Thursday and Friday 4:30pm to 7pm, Saturday 3pm to 6pm and Sunday 3pm to 7pm.

Bodega

Vibrant, lively and colourful décor. Bodega is an independent, quirky, South American themed bar and restaurant on Bennetts Hill. Monday to Saturday 3pm to 6pm and 9pm to close and all day Sunday is happy hour. There are all kinds of cocktails on the menu and during happy hour most of them are 2 for £9.

Turtle Bay

After work drinks with a Caribbean vibe, turtle bay is lively, vibrant and full of character. They do a range of bar snacks if you just fancy something to pick at with your drinks or there's a full Caribbean menu and the food is amazing. There’s a huge cocktail menu which are 2 for 1 during happy hours which are open to 7pm and 9:30pm to close so pretty much all day. Happy hours that are only an hour are for amateurs after all.

Island ice tea

Tamatanga

Full of colour, character, high ceilings and big window, Tamatanga on Navigation Street is a vibrant Indian restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. The bar area is quite small so if you’re not eating there’s not that many tables but they do 2 for 1 cocktails between 12pm and 7pm every day. Their cocktails have got an Indian twist so great if you fancy trying something different. If you’re a gin drinker they’ve got a good selections of gins to choose from as well.

Vanilla velvet

Revolucion de Cuba

Fiesta vibes and an authentic Cuban experience, Revolucion de Cuba is like taking a trip to Havana without leaving the midlands. Two floors and really stylish inside. They’ve got loads of cocktails with Latin flavour and Monday to Friday 3pm to 7pm they are 2 for 1.

1565 Bar, Park Regis Hotel

I’m really not a fan of broad street but 1565 bar on the fourth floor of the Park Regis hotel is a hidden gem. Its really nice inside and there’s a gorgeous outdoor terrace for when its beer garden weather. They do cocktail of the month which is £5 and Sunday through to Thursday 4pm to 7pm they do happy hour with £5 cocktails. They haven’t got a very extensive range but it’s a really nice place to sit and chill.

So these are a few of my favourites, if you’ve come across a happy hour I don’t know about please share the wealth of knowledge in the comments section and I’ll be straight down there for a couple of recreationals.
